Do you see birds in the store?

Cleo

The yellow bird you see is Cleo. It is a female turquoisine parakeet who lives here and is 100% free. She always has everything she needs, fresh water, fountain, food, seeds and several perches. She has a very curious personality and likes to go into the window to watch people passing by, soak in the sun or chew on plants. She is not bored! She is thriving and we love her very much. We come to see her several times a day even when the store is closed.

She has been with us since November 2023 and is free at all time, as she has a calm behavior. In a cage, even only at night, she had night terrors and hated total darkness. Totally free, she is happy to be active from the first rays of sunlight.

Turquoise

A turquoisine is a very early bird, jovial, curious and independent. She is a flight bird, so she loves to fly. Permanently caged, she becomes very unhappy and depressed, like many birds. A depressed bird becomes fearful and stops playing, washing, interacting and eating.

The tourquoisine is independent and rather solitary, it generally does not seek the company of other bird species or humans. It is not an affectionate or very playful bird. She prefers to spend her time in the sun, bathing, nibbling, and digging into plants.

However, Cleo is special: she is very curious about humans and likes to be in our company. She likes to come on our shoulder (and sometimes that of customers) and give kisses. And, although Turquoisine is known to be silent, Cléo responds when spoken to and is very expressive. Its sounds are very soft, and it is easy to differentiate its happy songs from its unhappy sounds. She really has a beautiful personality, we are lucky to have come across her by chance .

Rufus & Briou

Surely you have seen or heard them? They are budgerigars , very vocal and expressive little clowns. They have been with us since summer 2023. Unlike the turquoisine, they love interactions with other birds and humans, and they spend their time playing. They love ropes, papers, swings and all kinds of toys. Together, they don't bother each other! They love corn and spend their days cuddling, playing, cooing and eating. Despite the typical descriptions of each bird species, each has its own personality. Rufus is very affectionate, curious, resilient and extremely kind, while Briou is very fearful, but very very intelligent, especially when it comes to mischief... They are very endearing mini parrots.

Food

The basic food of birds are seed mixtures specific to each species, but it is considered that to have a healthy bird, you need variety. In our house, seeds are secondary and the diet is mainly kale, spinach, sugar snap peas, broboli, basil, cooked quinoa, organic puffed rice, asparagus, dried worms, cornmeal. egg, as well as corn cobs and millet as a treat. For feathers and moulting, they need calcium supplement.

Adoption of a bird

The birds in the store are neither a marketing tactic nor an incentive for people to adopt birds. Raising a bird can be a long and arduous task, requiring time, patience and adaptation, just like any animal. Adopting a bird also means leaving it free for most of the day, so you have to plan the space accordingly.

Before moving forward with a possible adoption, consider whether you are ready for this adventure which will last between 10 to 18 years for small birds, and which will require a lot of management and care.

Birds, large and small, have an extraordinary capacity for learning. When they receive lots of attention and care, they become incomparable life companions. However, when they are not raised in a context favorable to their development, they can develop behavioral problems and it is very difficult to get them back on their feet afterwards.

Also find out which species would suit you best, as they are all different. This will depend on your tolerance level and capabilities. Go meet the breeders and don't be in a hurry to adopt. There are also excellent forums on social media for questions about different species and general questions.

An exotic bird like Cléo was not torn from its natural environment, an action that is completely cruel. They are breeding birds and have been domesticated for generations. Like cats and dogs.

You are welcome to contact us for advice, we still have some knowledge on the subject and could help you and enlighten you.
